Miniature Crape Myrtle Looks Great In Any Garden

By Chasity Sheppard

Miniature Crape Myrtle really looks great in any garden. Full size Myrtle would look strange in some very small garden, although it really is beautiful, but these miniature varieties will fit in even the smallest one. You can also grow it on your terrace, in properly sized containers, or maybe in lovely hanging baskets. In any case, you will certainly enjoy their luxurious flowers all season long.

Twelve feet trees and shrubs will decorate your spacy garden, but to make your deck or patio more appealing, you will need something smaller. These miniature or dwarf versions are suitable for any space, and they mostly reach up to three feet. Great number of appealing colors and shapes make this plant very attractive.

Although there are numerous varieties of this lovely plant, some of them are more popular among gardeners. For example, Chickasaw. This small plant will rarely reach two feet, but it is highly resistant to all weather conditions, and its appealing, softly pink flowers look great in any environment.

Another very popular weeping variety of miniature Crape Myrtle is Delta Blush. This lovely cultivar has long lasting bunches of especially appealing light pink flowers. It is usually used as a showcase plant in all sizes of gardens. Thanks to its beauty and high weather and insect resistance, it is suitable for container growing as well.

Pocomoke is very good potting plant, and it has especially attractive, hot pink clusters that come late in the summer. Weeping Alamo Fire comes earlier, and people mostly choose it thanks to its beautiful red flowers. This amazingly appealing plant will decorate your terrace or patio, and add color to any part of your lovely garden.

New Orleans Weeping is a little bit larger, up to three feet plant, with numerous purple colored flowers. World's Fair Weeping has very nice, watermelon colored bunches of sweet tiny flowers you will simply adore. They are both suited for container growth as well, what makes them just great for decorating hidden corners of your lovely deck.

Some minis are small enough to be used as ground cover, for example Rosy Carpet. It will grow only one feet in height, but it will still be able to carry hundreds of beautiful pink flowers. Highly decorative in any corner of your garden, this lovely plant is resistant to mildew and insects, as all other myrtles.

Myrtles do need to be fertilized, especially during the growing season. Water soluble or osmotic fertilizers are the best, and twice a week should be enough. Some varieties are able to survive harsh weather conditions if planted in ground, but if you keep them in containers, they will need some protection against very low temperatures. These insect resistant plants might have occasional problems with aphids.

Miniature Crape Myrtle is really easy to maintain plant, and you won't be sorry if you choose to grow some of them in your garden. It loves sunny places, although it will be satisfied in half shadow as well. Any type of soil will do, as long as you give it enough water when the weather is hot and dry, especially if you have it in hanging basket or in a container.
